Did you know you can have olfactory hallucinations? That is, if you herniate the part of your brain that recieves scent information, you can smell things that don’t exist.

Something like that happened to my dad once, but it wasn’t really a hallucination. He was sick with E. coli and at one point, his kidneys shut down. He kept smelling ammonia and kept asking the nurse if they were cleaning his bathroom or outside his room. It turned out that the ammonia in his system wasn’t getting cleaned out. He was being poisoned. They had to start dialysis, and I think they did it for two or three weeks. That was one of the shittier times of my life.

He’s fine now.
